Norton blocking affiliate links

Posted on Thursday 16 February 2006

I’ve had a few emails asking me what I mean when I say that the links on MyDataFeedScripts have been set up so that there’s a jump script that ‘hides’ the url from Norton. Well a picture says a thousand words and 5Staraffiliateprograms has highlighted this in their site here. This example shows you CJ links and Irvs Luggage – but the same would apply to Linkshare links and Shareasale links. It shows you 2 pictures of how the page ’should’ look without Norton ad blocker on and how it looks with the Norton ad blocker on. It’s disturbing if only because it appears that Norton has the ad blocker set on as a default so your average mum and dad surfer who has Norton set up and who doesn’t usually adjust settings would just have it on. Another example shows how it blocks banner ads – click here to see it. The end result – no links to click – so no affiliate income…
