Overstock Datafeed Scripts

Posted on Friday 24 February 2006

After much angst, I present to you – the mighty Overstock Datafeed Scripts. What this script will potentially do for you :

  • you get to choose which stores you want to feature on your site – due to the sheer size of the feeds I’ve left out the media section of Overstock ie books, DVDs
  • there’s a jump script that masks the URL from Norton so that you won’t get blocked links
  • Updating your site is just by running a single script
  • potentially you can have over thousands of products on the one site – pulls the datafeed from the Overstock server and stores it on your own SQL server
  • site has a full template
  • there’s a search function that allows your visitors to search the database for products

Requirements :

  • you’ll need at least 1 mySQL database on your server
  • php 4.0 or higher to run the scripts

See the site in action (I’ve only picked the homeware related sections to load up) – click here

Cost is a one off payment of just $89 (payment via paypal). Click here to buy

Norton blocking affiliate links

Posted on Thursday 16 February 2006

I’ve had a few emails asking me what I mean when I say that the links on MyDataFeedScripts have been set up so that there’s a jump script that ‘hides’ the url from Norton. Well a picture says a thousand words and 5Staraffiliateprograms has highlighted this in their site here. This example shows you CJ links and Irvs Luggage – but the same would apply to Linkshare links and Shareasale links. It shows you 2 pictures of how the page ‘should’ look without Norton ad blocker on and how it looks with the Norton ad blocker on. It’s disturbing if only because it appears that Norton has the ad blocker set on as a default so your average mum and dad surfer who has Norton set up and who doesn’t usually adjust settings would just have it on. Another example shows how it blocks banner ads – click here to see it. The end result – no links to click – so no affiliate income…
